Textile Freelance Designer (Part-Time / 24 hours per week)

Role

We are looking for an experienced UK-based Freelance Textile Designer with 5+ years demonstrated experience working in clothing design, preferably in children’s wear to join our dynamic Product Team to support with all design development, artworking sketching, technical drawings and CAD design. You will have a passion for the sector with an impeccable eye for detail as well as a seamless ability to translate MORI’s unique brand identity into all of your designs. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and visually crafting product collections for both internal and external presentations on a daily basis.
  • Developing mood boards, trend boards and design packs.
  • Generating product technical details, artworks, and print repeats for suppliers.
  • Assisting the product team in creating all-over prints as well as placement prints using AI for inspiration.
  • Engaging in general design and development tasks through sketching and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with Pantone website and suggestions of colours for ranges.
  • Having a grasp of textile manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency and practicality when providing design suggestions.
  • Proposing new fabrics and innovative ideas.
  • Conducting online competitive shopping (comp shops).

Requirements

  • Passionate about clothing design, and in particular children’s wear, keeping updated on upcoming trends and changes in the industry
  • You will hold a Bachelor of Design or Bachelor of Arts degree in one of the following:  (BA) Fashion, Textile and/or Graphic Design, (BDes) Fashion and Textiles, (BA) Textiles & Surface Design
  • Extensive experience in graphic design software and tools – specifically Adobe Creative Suite – Illustrator and Photoshop 
  • Experience and knowledge of garment construction and fabric
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines
  • Proven experience working remotely in a contractor capacity 
  • An organised, self-starting mentality 
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines end-to-end
  • Advanced Microsoft Office/Google Workspace skills, particularly Excel/Google Sheets
  • Knowledge of colour theory and design principles, strong skills in colouring and understanding of colour
