Tax Manager | Estate and Trust

We are currently seeking a talented, enthusiastic Tax Manager to join our Estate and Trust Tax team.

The Estate and Trust Manager is responsible for assisting our clients with their internal accounting and estate, gift, and trust needs by performing a variety of more advanced accounting and tax assignments. This includes managing multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously. Tasks are typically conducted with little to no supervision but under the review of a Partner or directly from the client. Delegation and supervisory responsibilities will occur with less experienced staff. This position may also involve working cross-departmentally with other Boulay Departments to effectively accomplish projects and tasks.

Requirements

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: To perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and responsibility satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.  

  • Working knowledge of the preparation of trust and estate income tax returns 
  • Working knowledge of the preparation of gift tax returns 
  • Working knowledge of the preparation of estate tax returns 
  • Review trust accounting 
  • Review trust and estate income tax returns 
  • Review gift tax returns 
  • Review estate tax returns 
  • Oversee the drafting of estate plans 
  • Oversee probate and estate administration 
  • Oversee the filing of probate documents with the court 
  • Oversee light real-estate administration 
  • Oversee the complete process of managing all tasks regarding client work 
  • Anticipate, detect, and correct inaccuracies, conflicts, or other issues within projects 
  • Research technical issues 
  • Initiate and manage client communication with staff or Partner 
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to gather information and resolve client matters 

Qualifications and/or Experience: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform the essential functions of this role successfully. 

Required:                                                                                                                                             

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 
  • 6+ years of applicable experience  
  • CPA, JD, or LLM
  • Specific estate and trust experience  
  • Tax preparation and review experience (specifically with gift, estate, and trust and estate income tax) 
  • Solid track record of career achievements and work quality 
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in various accounting and other software, including Microsoft Office Suite  
  • Strong knowledge of Internal Revenue Code, tax law, and tax processes 
  • Supervisory experience 
  • Strong desire to help the client and provide quality services
