Stormwater Modelling Specialist – (Remote Role – AU Timezone)

About Us

We are dedicated to improving urban stormwater management and flood mitigation through advanced modelling and design. Our projects span Australia and North America, focusing on hydrology, hydraulic modelling, and water-sensitive urban design (WSUD). As we expand, we are looking for a Stormwater Modelling Specialist to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge stormwater solutions.

If you have a background in civil engineering, environmental science, or water resources—and a passion for stormwater and flood drainage modelling—we want to hear from you!

Position Overview

As a Stormwater Modelling Specialist, you’ll play a key role in hydrological and hydraulic modelling for urban stormwater systems. You’ll work with MUSIC and DRAINS, while also learning and applying North American flood drainage modelling tools (e.g., EPA SWMM, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks). Your work will support stormwater optimization, water quality assessments, and flood risk management.

You will also assist with AutoCAD drafting, especially shop drawings, when modelling work is not required.

This is a remote role based in the Philippines/India, with collaboration across Australia and North America.

What You’ll Be Doing

Hydrological & Hydraulic Modelling

  • Develop stormwater models using MUSIC and DRAINS.
  • Learn and apply North American flood drainage software (e.g., EPA SWMM, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks) for flood risk assessments.
  • Analyze and interpret model outputs to evaluate stormwater flow, water quality, and system performance.
  • Optimize stormwater infrastructure and WSUD solutions (e.g., bioretention systems, wetlands, permeable pavements).

Technical Analysis & Reporting

  • Conduct stormwater and flood impact assessments for urban development and infrastructure projects in Australia and North America.
  • Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and conceptual designs for stormwater management and flood mitigation systems.
  • Interpret and analyze rainfall-runoff relationships, water quality parameters, and drainage networks.

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Work closely with engineers, urban planners, and environmental consultants in Australia and North America.
  • Ensure compliance with regional stormwater and flood management regulations, guidelines, and best practices.

Project Drawings

  • Complete soil cell design drawings for consultants’ projects in Australia and North America.
  • Prepare soil cell shop drawings for contractor-quoted projects in the same regions.
  • Assist with AutoCAD drafting when modelling tasks are not active.

Quality Control & Documentation

  • Maintain detailed records of modelling assumptions, methodologies, and outcomes.
  • Help develop modelling guidelines and workflows to enhance team efficiency.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

Technical Expertise & Software Proficiency:

  • Experience or strong interest in hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management.
  • Should have at least 5+ years experience
  • Familiarity with MUSIC and DRAINS (or willingness to train in them).
  • Eagerness to learn and use North American flood drainage software (EPA SWMM, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks, etc.).
  • Understanding of WSUD principles and urban drainage systems.
  • Basic GIS skills (ArcGIS or QGIS) are a plus.
  • AutoCAD drafting experience from sketches or graphics is preferred.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, or Water Resources.
  • Candidates with related backgrounds (e.g., environmental science or water resources) are welcome if willing to specialize in stormwater and flood modelling.

Soft Skills & Work Ethic:

  • Analytical thinker & problem-solver with attention to detail.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across time zones.
