We are hiring at ASE Global for an experienced SQL Developer to join the team in the UK!  

ASE Global require someone looking to step up into their first management role. Strong SQL and T-SQL development including query writing, developing stored procedures, indexes, and triggers. We are a growing technology team working in an agile way. With empowerment and ownership at the core of our values, we are looking to expand our skillset with a strong lead for the database area. Working in sprints, we currently have four dedicated squads working to provide value to our business.

The SQL Developer is responsible for database aspects of application and report development, including supporting tools. It also involves database administration, such as management, optimisation, ad-hoc data queries and manipulation, and database design. Collaborating with the team, including code review and input to technical discussions, will be expected along with the production of documentation. This role works closely with the ASE infrastructure team to ensure high availability of the ASE running data services. This role also ensures the data infrastructure continues to use best practices for the implementation and maintenance of the databases.

The successful candidate will work in a remote work model anywhere in the UK!

What your day will look like:

  • Develop, maintain and support internally developed application databases
  • Provide ad-hoc maintenance and support function for complex related SQL queries
  • Provide technical expertise and consultancy to the business

Communication

  • Share information effectively with other technical staff and project teams
  • Understand and analyse requirements, seeking clarification as necessary
  • Communicate problems appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Identify and consult subject matter experts as required
  • Help maintain a culture of learning and creativity
  • Create clear documentation, guides and commented code
  • Contribute to technical design and architecture discussions

Technical

  • Maintain current knowledge in areas of database development, documentation, database security
  • Accurately estimate and measure tasks
  • Carry out database development, according to specification, and in line with development/coding standards
  • Carry out database tasks in line with the company’s core value of “Always Quality Driven”
  • Carry out testing and assist the QA team in testing
  • Carry out database maintenance in response to testing feedback and ad-hoc business requests

About you:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar discipline is highly advantageous
  • Database development/administration experience gained in a commercial environment
  • A sound knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server including T-SQL, replication, SSIS, SSRS
  • Understanding of indexing, performance tuning and query optimization
  • Database security knowledge and best practices
  • Keen to learn new skills and technologies
  • Proactive approach to problem management
  • Team player
  • An awareness of database development best practices and standards
  • Experience with handling large data volumes
  • Cloud-based database/ data lake knowledge
  • Requirements capture and documentation
