Your Title: Backend Software Engineer
Your Location: Remote/preferably the Greater Boston Area
You Report To: Engineering Manager
Schedule: Monday to Friday 9am – 5:30pm EST
Compensation: $120K + benefits
About the Opportunity:
First Help Financial, voted and certified as a “Great Place to Work” by our workforce for three years in a row, is adding a new partner to our Engineering department to accommodate our remarkable growth! This individual will work as a Backend Engineer for a Scrum team.

What you will do:
- Design, develop, and implement backend services using strong programming fundamentals.
- Be a self-starter with strong work ethic.
- Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration between the client-side and server-side applications.
- Participate in the design and implementation of robust and scalable system architectures.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Develop and execute unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and functionality.
- Troubleshoot and debug complex backend issues.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to colleagues.
What you bring:
- 2+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with a focus on backend technologies.
- 2+ years of experience in one or more backend programming languages (e.g., Java, Python).
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or Oracle.
- Experience with API design and development principles.
- Ability to think about systems; their edge cases, failure modes, and lifecycles.
- Experience with building and deploying applications in cloud environments (e.g., AWS) (a plus).
- Strong understanding of design patterns and software development methodologies (e.g., Agile).
- Excellent communication skills. You must be able to collaborate effectively with teams in a fully remote environment and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
- You are customer-focused, react well to changes, and able to multi-task on multiple products and projects.
- A passion for building high-quality software.
