Social Media Marketer

Real opportunities. Real impact. Your career, redefined.

(NOTE: A human reviews every application at Oceans, so please apply for only one position and only once a year—if you’re a better fit for another role, we’ll route your application accordingly and if we’re not quite ready for you, we’ll reach back out later).

At Oceans, we help the best and brightest of Sri Lanka to take advantage of opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t be available to them, while supporting entrepreneurs around the world. Our community (we call them Divers) don’t do surface work—they go deep to solve complex challenges and make a real impact. And in doing so, they support bold ideas and expand their skills, broaden their expertise, and grow their careers, all without having to leave family and friends.

We’re looking for a Social Media Marketer who knows how to build conversations—not just audiences. In this role, you’ll be responsible for crafting authentic content, growing communities, and sparking engagement across multiple social platforms. Whether it’s launching a campaign or responding to followers in real time, you’ll be at the heart of digital storytelling for fast-scaling brands.

This role is perfect for creative thinkers who are deeply plugged into culture, understand platform nuances, and know how to turn scrolls into clicks, and clicks into conversions.

Accountability

As a Social Media Marketer, your success will be defined by your ability to create compelling content, foster meaningful community interactions, and turn social engagement into measurable growth. Here’s how you’ll make an impact:

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement multi-platform social media strategies that align with brand goals and community growth targets.
  • Create detailed content calendars and maintain a consistent publishing schedule aligned with campaign objectives.

Content Creation & Execution

  • Create, curate, and manage high-quality content (images, videos, reels, carousels, and copy) tailored for each platform.
  • Ensure content reflects the brand’s voice, is visually cohesive, and stays ahead of digital trends.
  • Collaborate with designers, writers, or creators to bring ideas to life – UGC included.

Community Building & Engagement

  • Foster vibrant, supportive communities by responding to comments, questions, and DMs in brand-aligned tone.
  • Identify and engage with brand advocates, influencers, and potential partners to boost reach and credibility.
  • Lead sentiment tracking and maintain brand health across all platforms.

Performance & Reporting

  • Monitor engagement, reach, impressions, clicks, and conversions using native and third-party tools.
  • Deliver insights-rich performance reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Stay updated on platform algorithms, best practices, and compliance to keep strategies relevant.

Colleagues

You’ll collaborate directly with a U.S.-based client and their internal team – which may include brand leads, content strategists, designers, and growth marketers – to help their business grow through community-led and content-driven social media strategies.

At Oceans, you’ll also receive guidance and support from your Operations Manager, who will help you succeed in the role and ensure that you’re continuously growing and developing in your career.

Skills & Qualifications

At Oceans, we believe in T-shaped individuals—those who bring deep expertise in one area, paired with broad curiosity and interests. As a Social Media Marketer, your vertical focus will be community building and platform content creation, while your horizontal strengths span visual storytelling, campaign planning, and engagement analysis.

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Language Skills: Professional fluency in English, with excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Experience: At least 4 years in social media or digital marketing with a portfolio that shows creativity and results.
  • Education: A degree in Marketing, Communications, or relevant work experience.
  • Platform Knowledge: Proficiency in Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, and TikTok.
  • Social Media Tools: Familiarity with Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer, or similar scheduling and analytics tools.
  • Creative Skills: Ability to craft visually engaging content; graphic design proficiency is expected, and video editing is a strong plus.
  • Strategic Mindset: Understanding of UGC strategies, influencer outreach, and platform-specific trends.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to extract actionable insights from engagement and performance metrics.
  • Community Management: Experience building online communities and managing brand reputation across channels.

Diversity of experience is core to Oceans. You are expected to work inclusively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, ensuring that both personal and collective dignity are supported.

During the interview process, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your skills in the following areas:

  • Content Strategy: How have you developed and executed content plans aligned with brand objectives?
  • Engagement: How have you built communities or responded to feedback in ways that strengthened brand trust?
  • Creative Execution: How have you used design or video to elevate content and increase reach?
  • Influencer Collaboration: How have you partnered with creators or advocates to extend your campaigns?
  • Data-Driven Improvement: How have you used insights from metrics to iterate and improve your content strategy?
