Due to increased demand for our current and additional service lines, Legacy Habitat Banks Ltd seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our dynamic in-house team. As a Senior Ecologist, you will be crucial in driving our mission to protect and enhance biodiversity through habitat banking. You will work with a passionate and dedicated team of professionals committed to positively impacting the environment.

In this role, you will lead and manage various ecological projects, ranging from habitat assessments and surveys to impact assessments and habitat management and monitoring plans (HMMP). You will utilize your expertise in ecology to provide guidance and support to internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring that all projects adhere to best practices and comply with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage ecological projects, including habitat assessments, surveys, and restoration plans.
  • Conduct ecological impact assessments and develop strategies to mitigate adverse effects on biodiversity.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to internal teams and external stakeholders on ecological issues.
  • Collaborate with government agencies and conservation organizations to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Research to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in ecology and apply this knowledge to improve project outcomes.
  • Mentor and support junior ecologists, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ecological considerations into overall project planning and decision-making processes.
  • Attendance and contribution to CPD events and marketing or promotional events.

Requirements

  • This position is remote, but the candidate must be based in England due to travel requirements.
  • At least five years of experience in ecological consulting or a related field.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline at 2:1 or higher.
  • Demonstrated experience in Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and practices, including metric calculations and contribution to Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan production.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing ecological projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in using UKHab classifications, infield ID and Condition Assessments.
  • In-field conservation experience – or willingness to learn on the job.
  • In-depth knowledge of ecological assessment methods and impact mitigation strategies.
  • Strong understanding of relevant environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Full and clear UK Driving Licence with your car – mileage will be expensed.
  • Rare overnight stays are potentially required and are entirely expensed by us.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in the use of ecological survey and analysis tools.
  • Experience working with GIS software is highly desirable.
  • Strong commitment to ethical and sustainable environmental practices.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, government agencies, and conservation organizations.
  • Previous experience of working within start-ups or fast growing team is beneficial.
