Job Description:

The Sales Tax Analyst will play a crucial role in ensuring the company’s adherence to sales tax regulations and overall business compliance. This individual will report to the Manager of Operations and will work closely with cross-functional teams, leveraging their expertise to analyze financial data, interpret tax laws, and support the organization in maintaining compliance with relevant statutes.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Tax Management:

  • Conduct regular reviews of sales transactions to ensure accurate sales tax calculations.
  • Run monthly reconciliation reports to identify and correct discrepancies on monthly filings.
  • Manage state business license portfolio and ensure timely renewals.
  • Perform regular product listing reviews, and update product tax codes accordingly.
  • Manage and respond to state notices regarding compliance matters.
  • Stay abreast of compliance requirements and changes on a per state and jurisdictional level.
  • Monitor legislative changes that could impact our sales tax obligations, and adjust compliance strategies accordingly.

Business Compliance:

  • Monitor and analyze regulatory changes impacting business operations.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure overall compliance with business regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of various compliance reports.

Data Analysis:

  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential areas of improvement.
  • Generate reports to provide insights into sales tax liabilities and compliance status.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain organized and up-to-date documentation related to sales tax filings and compliance efforts.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from regulatory authorities with accurate and timely information.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with finance, legal, and other departments to address compliance-related matters.
  • Provide guidance and support to teams on sales tax implications for various business activities.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting, with a focus on sales tax and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of sales tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in utilizing accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and completeness.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Preferably with experience on Avalara/Avatax/Vertex
