PeopleCert is looking for Remote Online Speaking Examiners that will conduct and assess online candidates’ speaking proficiency in English in accordance with stringent assessment criteria and processes, through our platforms. This position refers to the LanguageCert International ESOL (Speaking & Listening) exam suite.

The Online Exams Center operates 24/7/365.

As a Remote Online Speaking Examiner, your tasks will include the following:

  • Conduct the online spoken interview in strict accordance with the scripted Interlocutor Framework and LanguageCert regulations
  • Manage the interaction in the exam and facilitates the candidate’s performance ensuring a positive candidate experience
  • Ensure standardization and consistency of interlocution
  • Assess the candidate’s performance fairly and consistently and in accordance with LanguageCert’s stringent assessment criteria and processes
  • Perform the required procedures to authenticate the candidate’s identity and safeguard exam integrity in accordance with PeopleCert’s standards, regulations and processes
  • Implement basic troubleshooting protocols to ensure that the candidate’s technical environment supports a smooth testing experience, as needed
  • Attend LanguageCert’s trainings and standardization sessions as required
  • Respond positively to guidance and advice and implements improvements where needed
  • Observe the need for confidentiality of examination material and security at all times
  • Provide feedback on assessment material, as required
  • Ensure remote work arrangement (spatial and environmental) is such that fulfils the essential responsibilities of the Marking Interlocutor role and role functions, to be performed in strict accordance with LanguageCert’s stringent criteria and processes
  • Follow the provisions of collective agreements and LanguageCert policies and shares in the responsibility, mutual accountability and commitment of making work from home arrangements successful, including access to the required work tools and adequate technology, and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment
  • Ensure any issues encountered are immediately reported to supervisors through the designated communication channels to be promptly addressed in accordance with LanguageCert regulations
  • Carry out any reasonably allocated duties and tasks, relevant to the role and the scope of activities by applying a flexible & adaptable customer centric approach to serve PeopleCert’s multinational presence and global operations across multiple time zones
  • Offer the services set out above within the specified times and in accordance with LanguageCert’s procedures

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English Language or similar field (Linguistics, Education, ELT/TESOL) or any undergraduate degree and a TEFL/TESOL qualification (Level 5 and above) from a recognized institution
  • Minimum 4 years’ full-time TEFL teaching experience (Freelance and volunteer teaching is not included) and demonstrable experience in English language assessment examining with awarding bodies
  • Postgraduate, Research degree and/or Teaching Qualifications will be taken into consideration towards the completion of the above minimum requirement
  • Exceptional command of the English language (C2/ native). Excellent listening, writing and speaking skills, clear enunciation and articulation, adapting language and form of communication to meet the needs of different audiences
  • A very good level of IT literacy, familiarity with online communication platforms (i.e.Teams)
  • Full familiarity with the levels of the Common European Framework (CEFR) and working knowledge on it
  • Well organized, self-driven, flexible and able to work in a high-volume, fast-paced, and deadline-driven environment
  • Prior working experience in the certification of persons and/or training and exam fields is desirable
  • Prioritization skills and ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously

Working on Home Office (HO) Secure English Language Tests (SELTs)

Any person who is engaged by PeopleCert to work on the SELT service must undergo a Background Check (the results of which must be acceptable to PeopleCert and the HO) prior to commencing their SELT duties. All SELT personnel will be required to complete a declaration (provided by PeopleCert) where the existence of any criminal record and/or bankruptcy must be declared.

If working on the SELT service in the UK, background checks will include:

  • A basic or enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Right to Work in the UK check (including nationality, identity and place of residence)
  • HO security check (Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) or Counter Terrorist Check (CTC)
  • Financial background check
  • Employment reference check
  • If working on the SELT service anywhere in the world (outside of the UK) personnel will undergo background checks that are equivalent to those stated for the UK

In addition, if personnel are required to speak to SELT candidates they must be appropriately skilled in English language and, where SELT services are provided anywhere in the world (outside of the UK), the official language of the relevant country.
