New Energy Nexus (NEX) is the world’s leading ecosystem of funds and accelerators supporting diverse clean energy entrepreneurs to thrive. We started in Silicon Valley and now operate an ecosystem of programs and partners across 10 countries. The Job
Reporting to the Global COO, as the Regional Director, Africa Programs, you will grow our impact by identifying, convincing, and establishing partnerships with donors. This is an opportunity to use your network and skills to champion access to energy and energy for agriculture, ensuring the continued success and expansion of our organization. This position is remote, but preferably based in Nairobi or London and offers competitive nonprofit compensation and benefits.
Key responsibilities will include:
Fundraising (85%)
- Leverage your vast network to identify and connect with potential donors, building a robust pipeline that translates potential into secured funding for our strategic priorities.
- Oversee a fundraising goal of $2 million for programming in Africa
- Play an instrumental role in developing and executing our fundraising strategy for growth in Africa, ensuring funding for initiatives aligned with our core mission.
- Lead, manage, and actively participate in the proposal cycle within your domains, ensuring the hands-on creation of compelling proposals that effectively engage potential donors. Review and provide quality assurance for proposals submitted by the Uganda chapter.
- Initiate and foster relationships with potential donors, while also maintaining strong ties with our current partners.
- Represent NEX at external events as well as public speaking and thought leadership on the clean energy transition needs in Africa, especially those related to energy access. Your representation at external events will ensure NEX’s message is prominent in donor communities.
- Publish thought pieces and articles related to creating an equitable and just clean energy transition
- Stay ahead of trends in donor priorities and resource mobilization, advising our leadership on incorporating these trends to ensure continued funding. Additionally, commit to personal growth and development to always bring your best to the role.
- Participate in the Global Abundance Team and coordinate with other development staff of fundraising opportunities.
Program Operations and General Management (15%)
- Oversee the Uganda chapter program operations including OKRs
- Develop an Africa strategy and implementation plan for growth in the subcontinent around energy access and agriculture programming, starting in East Africa
- Oversee future chapters that are established in Africa with regular visits to deeply understand the program opportunities and challenges
- Manage any funded joint programs with new and existing African Entrepreneur Support Organization partners
- Collaborate with colleagues, ensuring a cohesive approach to achieving our organizational goals.

Your experience and expertise on energy access and/or rural development gives you the edge when articulating our mission of supporting clean energy entrepreneurs. With a talent for crafting compelling proposals and a keen sense for building relationships, you stand ready to make a global impact.
Requirements
Requirements:
- 8 – 10 years of experience in fundraising is required, and minimum 2 years of experience in a senior role.
- A proven personal network with donors, both private and government as well as a proven track record in revenue-generation from a wide variety of sources including investors/ investment funds, corporations, and foundations.
- You have a proven track record in successfully securing a minimum of $1 million per year from a diversity of major donors. In securing this funding, you can prove you were responsible for initiating the leads as well as the strategic development of opportunities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and fundamental adherence to the principles, ethics, and best practices of modern fundraising, including superior knowledge of donor relations principles and fundraising strategy.
- Strong skills in writing persuasive and effective proposals are essential.
- Open to travel and flexible in working hours because of the global character of NEX.

This is a full-time remote position. Relocation assistance is not available. Compensation is competitive for the market the candidate is based in.
