We are looking for a highly motivated Project Engineer Intern to assist the Project Engineering Team in the design and construction phases of Photo Voltaic (PV) Utility Scale Solar Plants while supporting the Foundational goals of the Project Engineering team.  Job duties will focus on a variety of administrative and technical tasks.

This is a paid internship that will start on or around June 3, 2024, with an end date of August 9, 2024.

During the 10-week program, interns will participate in virtual, company-wide and department meetings, virtual bi-weekly Friday lunch & learn trainings and a culminating group presentation on your overall internship experience. The program is structured to provide exposure to careers in renewable energy, best practices in internal communications as part of a remote/ hybrid team and best of all, the opportunity to work and support a team of professionals who are experts in their field.


  • Responsible for helping to manage technical engineering aspects during the design and construction phases of utility scale solar projects including organizing and responding to Requests for Information (RFI’s), Submittals, and other design related inquiries
  • Responsible for managing construction software (Procore) to ensure that project deliverables are accessible and consistent across Urban Grid’s portfolio of utility-scale solar projects
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers, Project Managers, EPC companies, and multiple other project stakeholders to ensure projects are being executed according to the planned project schedule and budget
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and help develop mitigation strategies to ensure project objectives are achieved on time and within budget.
  • Shadow Project Engineers and other 3rd party consultants during review of detailed civil, electrical, structural, or high voltage construction drawing packages
  • Review and organize contract deliverables from third parties to help maintain project schedules and Key Milestones
  • Comprehend state and local requirements and help to develop permitting matrices for Permitting Agencies and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for different utility-scale solar projects
  • Accompany Project Engineering Team member(s) on a project site visit to an active construction project

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Project Engineering Team and participate in development, engineering, and construction of utility-scale PV Solar Power Plants. Urban Grid is seeking a self-managed team-player with excellent technical capabilities and communication skills to support projects from development stage through the Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) stage and onward to project final completion.


This position will be primarily remote with periodic meetups with our team. Preferably within the Eastern time zone.

Candidate to work full-time hours Monday – Friday during the summer duration of the internship.


  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related field must be a Sophomore or above
  • Interest in renewable energy
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to coordinate and communicate work with multiple disciplines, and team members.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools: Excel, Word, Powerpoint.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong organizational capacity to simultaneously manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines and be able to quickly adapt to changes and shift priorities to meet project needs.
  • Working knowledge of both DC and three-phase AC electric system engineering and large-scale solar design concepts preferred, but not required.
  • Working knowledge in electrical systems design and PV site layout preferred, but not required.
  • Strong work ethic and exceptionally high work standards
  • Work pro-actively individually, and collaboratively within the team
  • Self-motivated and work with minimal direction


Interns will receive 24 hours of PTO, 2 paid holidays and a $60 monthly cell phone reimbursement during their internship.
