The role in a nutshell
As an Assistant Geospatial Data Analyst, you will play a pivotal role within our GIS team, supporting our mission by ensuring that our work is underpinned by high-quality and accurate spatial data. You will collaborate with internal teams and engage with external stakeholders, including farmers, landowners, and Local Authorities.

- Visualisation and Engagement: Create figures, maps and web apps to communicate geospatial data and information effectively and engagingly to stakeholders and team members.
- Spatial Analysis: Perform spatial analysis using GIS software to support the identification of suitable restoration sites, assess habitat condition, and evaluate project progress.
- Quality Control: Conduct quality control checks on geospatial data and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams across EB to provide geospatial support for biodiversity restoration projects and ensure alignment with project goals.
- Digital Field Data Capture: Direct support field ecologists in the collection and processing of habitat and related environmental data.
- Data Processing: Assist in checking and quality assurance of geospatial data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of data sources, analysis methods, and results for project documentation and reporting.
- Professional Development: Contribute towards innovation within EB maintaining knowledge of emerging technologies that can be utilised in the team and wider company strategy.
- Personal Development: Proactively seek opportunities for further training and keep up to date with the latest tools and techniques.
Requirements
- A degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Up to 1 year of experience in the GIS sector or equivalent transferable experience.
- Passion for Biodiversity Restoration, Ecology, and the Environment.
- Strong team player with a proactive problem-solving attitude.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro software and its extensions.
- Understanding of data management principles and quality assurance/control.
- Interest in or experience with scripting and process automation tools (e.g., ArcGIS Model Builder, ArcPy, etc.).
- Ability to work both independently and as a valuable contributor to a remote geospatial analytic team.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, keen attention to detail, and a high level of initiative.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
Desirable
- An MSc in Geographical Information Systems or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Experience within the ecology and environment sector.
- Familiarity with other GIS and related software (e.g., QGIS, GRASS, IDISRI, Mapbox, etc.).
- Interest in emerging GIS and related technology/data areas (e.g., remote sensing, LIDAR data, Photogrammetry, Machine Learning, etc.).
- Knowledge of web GIS applications and the creation of web maps and web apps (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Online, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with in-field data capture forms for deployment to field workers.
- Understanding of programming languages and software development (e.g., Javascript, Python, .NET, Arcade, R, etc.).
- Awareness of technological advances and industry trends related to geospatial data
