Accounting Manager

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager (or higher) who can take full ownership of daily accounting operations—leading execution, ensuring accuracy, and driving efficiency across all core financial processes.

This role will be working from home permanently and during U.S. business hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting operations for two business entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across all processes
  • Prepare and post journal entries, enter invoices, and properly code expenses in line with company policies
  • Investigate and resolve account discrepancies, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded
  • Perform regular reconciliations and maintain the balance of general ledger accounts
  • Lead the monthly close process, including preparation of accurate and timely financial statements
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready financial documentation, including invoices, W-9s, and contracts
  • Ensure full compliance with US GAAP and other relevant accounting standards
  • Prepare for and support external audits, with potential to lead audit engagements and respond to auditor inquiries
  • Assist in system integrations, ensuring accurate and seamless data synchronization across platforms
  • Support regulatory and tax compliance, including monitoring changes in tax laws, managing filings, and coordinating tax payments and returns
  • Document accounting processes and procedures to support internal controls and knowledge transfer
  • Produce ad hoc financial reports and analyses to support leadership decision-making

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to interpret and work with complex financial data
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity
  • Resourceful problem solver who takes initiative and finds solutions independently
  • Prior experience working in a U.S.-based startup environment (experience in large corporate firms not preferred)
  • Highly autonomous and self-directed, capable of managing tasks with minimal oversight
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Experience in building and improving accounting processes and workflows
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of English proficiency
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Willingness to take full ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, from execution to oversight

Bonus Experience:

  • Experience in highly regulated industries, such as telecommunications or healthcare
  • Proficiency with financial tools and platforms including Sage Intacct, CCH SureTax, and Stripe
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with hands-on experience applying standards such as ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), ASC 842 (Leases), and Section 174 (R&D Capitalization)
  • Proven experience managing accounting or finance teams, while also being comfortable in an individual contributor (IC) role in a lean environment
  • Open to future leadership opportunities, with the potential to build and scale a team as the company grows
