The Role

As a Data Scientist, you’ll play a crucial role in leveraging our vast and varied datasets to drive product improvements and business decisions. You will be providing analytics and insights to our Product teams. The work will range from doing deep dives on specific aspects of the product, shaping and interpreting the metrics that define long-term success for any given feature, and developing hypotheses on what product changes might unlock significant value. You will gain a deep understanding of our users and product, being able to guide Product Managers and other key stakeholders through complex decisions that shape long-term product strategy.

You’ll be joining a high-impact, fast-moving team composed of data scientists, analysts, engineers and ML specialists, and will get exposure to a wide range of concepts and technologies. You’ll have a high degree of responsibility and ownership within a supportive team environment.

Responsibilties

    • Analyse product features to understand their usage and uncover issues or opportunities to improve our users’ experience
    • Design, run and analyse online experiments (A/B, multivariate and multi-armed bandit tests)
    • Be a key partner to the core product team, proactively providing deep insights into user behaviours, lifecycle, segmentation and habits to guide long-term product strategy
    • Work with Data/ML Engineers to continuously improve our models and algorithms through analysis, creative feature engineering and metric design.
    • Design and build analytics datasets that support fast insights to questions from our product team and company leaders
    • Clearly and concisely communicate insights and results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through effective visualisations and concise written and verbal communication
    • Apply best practices around code quality and design to ensure systems are robust, reliable, maintainable and extendable
    • Find, diagnose and remediate data quality issues

About You

Required Skills and Experience:

    • Graduate or Masters degree in a technical field – science, engineering, economics, statistics or similar.
    • Strong competency with SQL and data warehousing.
    • Proficiency with large-scale experimentation (testing hypotheses, causal inference)
    • Solid understanding of statistical modelling (regression, clustering, decision trees, etc.)
    • Experience with analytics tools (Tableau, Looker)
    • Experience working with event-oriented data sets of large size and diverse schemas
    • Experience developing dashboards and reporting systems
    • Sharp product sense and business acumen and concise communication skills with the ability to articulate effort vs impact tradeoffs

Preferred Skills or Experience:

    • Experience with modern cloud-based data warehouse solutions such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift.
    • Experience with any DBT (data build tool)
    • Experience with Looker as a BI/visualisation tool
    • Experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
    • Experience with a deep learning framework and/or recommender systems
    • Experience with ETL tools and piping (Airflow / Prefect / Dagster)
