Role & Responsibilities 

The Senior Technical Project Manager role is critical to the success of our agency. They’re the driving force behind implementing intricate eCommerce strategies, showcasing a deep understanding of technical aspects such as third-party integrations and migrations. With complete ownership over projects, they collaborate closely with clients and internal teams to ensure successful launches of Shopify Plus websites for various brands. This role demands not only strong project management skills but also a solid grasp of Shopify’s capabilities. They excel in navigating complexities and delivering tailored solutions that meet clients’ goals effectively.

  • Client Onboarding: They are responsible for onboarding the Client. They will review all Sales notes and Documents, ensuring that they understand what this specific Client needs. Based on their needs, they will determine with the Client what their Onboarding Plan looks like.
    • They will setup all tools and ensure everyone has access
    • They are responsible for coordinating all necessary Workshops, Check-Ins and Presentations.
    • They are responsible for creating Avex branded decks and ensuring the team leverages the templates as well. 
  • Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs, objectives, and challenges.
    • Develop and maintain a weekly and monthly schedule of required meetings to attend depending on the current need for support, oversight, and opportunity with clients.
  • Production Plan Scoping & Management: They work with the team to create detailed project plans for both simple and complex projects. These plans highlight deliverables, responsibilities, dependencies, timelines and costs.
    • They ensure the plans align with project objectives and client expectations.
    • They fully manage and control the implementation of the project plans. promptly informing their teams of any deviation from the plan. 
    • They implement robust change control processes to address scope changes promptly and minimize scope creep.
  • Product Knowledge: They understand Ecommerce, Retention, CRO and UX best practices and services. Their understanding of the services allows them to answer client questions in a quick and concise manner and helps them better identify risks and dependencies when scoping out and managing  projects, budgets and timelines. 
  • Technical Expertise: They have  in-depth knowledge of Shopify Plus’ technical capabilities that  allows them to answer client questions in a quick and concise manner and helps them identify risks and dependencies when scoping and managing projects. 
    • They specialize in handling migrations to Shopify from Magento, Salesforce and other custom platforms. 
    • They understand data modeling, data mapping, and data migration between system practices and are confident when communicating with technical team members and vendors. They know when to delegate and understand whom tasks should be delegated.   
  • Task Management: They will gather, define & communicate Task Acceptance Criteria in a clear and concise way to both Internal and Client Teams.
    • They will create Timelines with clear Milestones and Estimates to ensure that these enhancements are delivered on-time, within budget and exceeding client expectations.
    • They will support their Production team as they execute, ensuring that they have the necessary access and details to deliver these enhancements efficiently.
    • They will conduct thorough QA with the Quality Assurance Team & verify that all Acceptance Criteria is being met. 
    • They are the final product approver. No enhancements are to be sent to the client until they’ve ensured they meet our quality standards. 
    • They will manage Client feedback, ensuring it’s communicated to the internal team clearly and applied appropriately. 
  • Budget Management: They are responsible for the Client’s budget and will oversee the Strategists, Designers, Solutions and Developers Workload and Tracked Time on a weekly basis, supporting their time management and task prioritization duties.
    • They will ensure their team is aware of the budget and properly tracking their time/utilizing the budget. 
    • They will ensure that our team is delivering fairly accurate estimates and that any estimated conflicts are discussed with the client. If any internal resources require additional budget due to problems arising that were within our control, they will ensure the client is not billed for our corrections. 
  • Education: They will implement best practices & stay up to date with ecommerce and department related trends/tactics.
  • Hiring: They may be responsible for interviewing, onboarding and training any new team members that join their team. They may review applicants, create skills tests and report any onboarding improvements/requirements to HR for execution. 
  • Mentorship: They may have a team that they are responsible for. They will provide mentorship and build camaraderie within their team. 
    • Coordinate 1-1 Check-Ins
    • Lead Performance Reviews
  • Department Optimization: They will identify, strategize & document improvements that can be made to the processes,  services and deliverables that their team is responsible for. They will also ensure all updates are reported in the Change Management Log and properly implemented and communicated to the team.
  • Training & Development: Design, deliver, and evaluate training programs and career development initiatives, identify training needs, and collaborate with subject matter experts to provide employees with the resources and support needed to achieve their full potential.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Technical Project Manager, Solutions Architect/Engineer, or Technical Lead with a focus on eCommerce platforms, preferably in a retail or consumer-facing industry.
    • Experience with Shopify required 
    • Experience with Magento, Salesforce and/or custom platform migrations preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, business administration with a focus on eCommerce or digital marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
