Payroll Accountant

RP is hiring a remote part-time Payroll Accountant to assume responsibility for semi-monthly payroll processing for two separate pay groups. The time requirement is estimated to be around 80 hours per month with a flexible schedule as long as payroll deadlines are met.
This position will be fully remote, and the candidate must reside in the DMV area (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia)
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Process semi-monthly payroll for two pay groups (ie 4 groups/month)
- Process payroll for hourly, salaried exempt, and salaried non-exempt employees across multiple jurisdictions
- Ensure timesheets are submitted and approved timely
- Work with People Operations to process employee changes
- Perform a high-level review of submitted timesheets for accuracy
- Provide ownership of the payroll calendar
- Update leave accruals semi-monthly after payroll is complete
- Facilitate off-cycle payroll requests, as necessary, for items such as terminations and bonus payments
- Serve as primary payroll point of contact within the RP organization and with our 3rd party payroll provider, GovConPay, and 3rd party payroll platform vendor, iSolved
- Provide ownership of payroll reporting, compliance, and documentation
- Provide support for external audits and ad hoc internal requests
- Tracks compliance filings (ie. Quarterly 941s) and coordinates with GovConPay to ensure timely submission
- Respond to federal and state payroll tax notices promptly
- Maintain organized electronic records on SharePoint in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations
- Process year-end W2s
- Handle sensitive PII with the highest level of professionalism and discretion
- Communicate effective payroll guidance to employees and facilitate payroll training as needed
- Collaborate with other team members to complete group taskings, attend weekly team meetings, etc. as part of the Finance and Accounting team
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years of payroll-related experience
- Must reside in the DMV area (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia)
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Experience working with payroll compliance including compliance filings and withholdings
- Expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of other Microsoft Office products
- The ability to work for any US employer without requiring sponsorship
